#4 Five Clues You're Clouding Your Vibration

Uncover the essence of who you are

Note: You can continue reading, or listen to this edition on Spotify.

Reminder: We are diving into the concept of identity because it is one of the three big life questions that transforms vibration or the atmosphere of your life. If you want more context, check out this post.

It’s 2:34 a.m., and the first cry pierces through the silence. Not urgent, but loud enough to freeze me in that one-eye-slightly-open, ultra-still state, straining to hear if my husband will move. Normally, he’s the one to get up, but tonight? Not even a snore.

The cry comes again, and I crack, stumbling out of bed and muttering under my breath: Why is it so hard for me to get up? Am I a bad mom?

Small moment? Sure. But here’s the thing: these stories—the guilt, the doubt, the frustration—don’t stop at 2:34 a.m. They’re everywhere. At work. In relationships. In those split-second thoughts that spiral into bigger doubts. They don’t just weigh us down; they limit our sense of self and spiritual posture. They cloud our vibration.

The truth is, you are more than your stories because you were created for more—by something greater, with love and intention. That truth already lives in you, placed there by the One who made you.

Why then do the doubts and limiting beliefs continue? It’s time to uncover that. The first step? Learning to notice the clues that show you when you are clinging to a false identity.

Big Idea: Common identity traps offer clues to rediscover who you are

When we mistake the outer layers of our identity—our roles, our actions, even our anxiety—for the truth of who we are, we create tension. This tension isn’t failure; it’s a wake-up call from a Higher Power. It’s a signal that there is more of life to discover.

Let’s decode the clues and consider the opportunity they present.

Clue #1: Reactivity

  • Signal: Quick, impulsive reactions without reflection. Feeling like a victim.

  • What it reveals: You likely have an unexamined fear or story about yourself that was activated by a person or situation.

  • Opportunity: Next time you feel a surge of emotion, try pausing for 90 seconds. Ask yourself: What part of me feels threatened, and why? (Curious why 90? Here’s the science!)

Clue #2 Physical Tension

  • Signal: That tightness in your chest. The clench in your jaw. The uneasy flutter in your stomach.

  • What it reveals: Suppressed emotions often manifest physically, pointing to a story or belief you’ve internalized.

  • Opportunity:  Instead of fighting the tension, get curious. Focus on the part that hurts and ask God: What are you trying to tell me? Write down what comes up.

Clue #3 Feeling Stuck or Trapped

  • Signal: The sense that you’re spinning your wheels—resistance, procrastination, or an inability to break free, no matter how badly you want to.

  • What it reveals: False assumptions about who you are or what’s possible may be limiting you.

  • Opportunity: Complete this worksheet for one change you’re struggling to make. For more detail about the worksheet, check out the book “Immunity to Change”.

Clue #4 Discomfort with Change

  • Signal:  Change rattles you. A new job, a move, or even a shift in routine feels unsettling, like the ground beneath your feet isn’t solid.

  • What it reveals: Change threatens the roles, labels, and structures you’ve built your identity around.

  • Opportunity: Reflect on the change. On paper, answer: What am I afraid to lose? What might I gain if I let go?

Clue #5 Lack of Confidence

  • Signal: That nagging voice telling you, “You’re not enough.”

  • What it reveals: Your inner voice isn’t representing you; it’s the echo of societal expectations.

  • Opportunity: Consider the idea that your value lies in simply being. Like a flower feeding bees or a bee spreading seeds, your existence has inherent worth and purpose.

Closing Thoughts

The clues we’ve explored—reactivity, tension, confidence—aren’t flaws. They’re your inner compass, showing you the way home. They’re asking you to stop living out your stories and start embodying your truth. Imagine what might shift if you embraced the clues as your greatest teachers.

Rediscovering who you are is not about becoming someone new. It’s about peeling back the layers to uncover the luminous being you already are. Imagine yourself as a lantern. Every layer of dust you wipe away allows more of God’s light to shine through—not just illuminating your path, but lighting the way for others.
